Dermazin, 50 g, Sandoz
Indications:
Treatment and prophylaxis of infected burns and superinfected wounds, including untreated bedsores and deep wounds.
Action:
Dermazin is a local chemotherapeutic agent for the prevention and treatment of infected burns. Silver sulfadiazine decomposes on burning, slowly and continuously releasing silver ions. Silver ions quickly bind to bacterial deoxyribonucleic acid, preventing the growth and multiplication of bacterial cells without affecting skin cells and subcutaneous tissue. Dermazin cream has a broad antibacterial spectrum, including all species of microbes with potential for infection: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, some species of Proteus and Klebsiella; it also acts against Candida albicans and other fungi. Dermazin penetrates necrotic tissue and exudate.
Composition:
1 g of silver sulfadiazine micronized in the hydrophilic base to 100 g of cream.
Administration method:
The treatment can be applied immediately after assessing the extent and depth of burn injuries. After cleaning the area and removing the devitalized tissues, Dermazin cream is applied in a layer of 2-4 mm thick on the surface of the burn or, preferably, it is applied on a sterile gauze that is placed over the wound. The cream can be applied with a sterile spatula or glove. The burn is anointed with cream once a day. In severe burns, the cream is reapplied daily. The duration of a treatment for superficial burns depends on the degree of the injury from a few days to a month at most. Surgery is only necessary if healing is not achieved after one month of treatment with Dermazin. Before each application of the cream, the wound will be washed under a jet of antiseptic solution, for the removal of cream residues and exudate that appears in abundance after the application of Dermazin cream, with the appearance of pus after color, but in reality aseptic. Dermazin cream is indicated for repeated applications in a single patient. Applying the cream is painless. It does not stain clothes and bed linen.
Contraindications: The
use of Dermazine is contraindicated in premature babies and newborns, due to physiological jaundice. Dermazin should not be used during pregnancy unless it is estimated that the benefits of life-saving treatment outweigh the potential risk to the fetus.
Precautions: Caution should
be exercised in case of hypersensitivity to sulfamides due to possible allergic reactions in patients with congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, as hemolysis may occur after applying the cream to large areas of the body, as well as in liver and kidney disorders. When treatment with Dermazin involves prolonged administration over large areas, the number of leukocytes will be controlled, making it possible for leukopenia to occur.
Careful! The increase in body temperature in children in the first days of treatment is not the result of Dermazin administration and should not lead to discontinuation of therapy.
Side effects:
In the prolonged treatment of superinfected burns that spread to large areas of the body, the concentration of sulfonamides in the blood can reach a level equal to that of systemic treatment.
